Mission
Our mission is to serve the citizens of Williamsburg County and the
surrounding areas with high quality services to enhance and support a
more productive and healthy lifestyle through effective prevention,
early intervention, and efficient treatment in the areas of alcohol,
tobacco and other drugs.
Core Values
- Respect
- Integrity
- Dedication
Guiding
Principles
- Addictions
are a preventable and treatable disease.
- The
citizen-client is always the priority.
- The agency
will:
- Provide local
leadership
and assistance on substance use and addiction issues.
- Work collaboratively
with
Williamsburg County Council, South Carolina Department of Alcohol and
Other Drug Abuse Services , and other partners
- Ensure the citizens
of
Williamsburg County a system of accountability.
Alcohol and drug abuse constitutes a series of underlying personal
problems, which an individual attempts to find solutions to, or escape
from, through repeated destructive use of mood altering chemicals.
Through the recovery process, individuals learn new ways of coping with
life and develop the personal strengths necessary to abstain from
chemicals, deal effectively with others, and make the changes necessary
to lead a healthy and productive life-style.
Treatment
The purpose of the treatment program is to provide professional
counseling and emotional support for clients who are committed to
making life changes. Treatment services include: Clinical Assessment
and Referral, Individual, Group and Family Therapy. The combination and
frequency of these services are tailored to meet each
individual’s need and will change throughout the treatment
process.
Counseling services are available for children and adolescents who may
be at-risk or using drugs and alcohol. Services are also available for
behavioral, emotional, or parent/child problems.
Women
- Individual and group therapy sessions are provided to meet their
unique needs in a safe and comfortable environment. Women therapy
groups are held each Tuesday and Friday from 9:30 am until 11:30 am in
Kingstree.
12:00 Group meets 1 hour on Mondays and Wednesdays. Individuals may
attend two or one group per week based on their individual needs.
NOVA Group meets on Fridays - 9:30 am - 11:30 am
Gambling
- If you suspect you have a gambling problem, we offer an 8 week
edutherapy class, as well as individual and group counseling for
compulsive gambling. We have counselors who are certified to provide
these gambling therapy services. If you want to know more about this
program, please call our office at 843-355-9113 or you may call the
statewide 24/7 toll-free gambling hot-line at 866-452-5155.
Substance
Abuse Professional (SAP) - We
have two substance abuse professionals who meet all certification
requirements of the Department of Transportation, who can evaluate
drivers who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol regulation. We can
recommend what education, treatment, follow-up testing and aftercare
services might be appropriate based on a clinical assessment.
Federal Laws
- General information regarding your healthcare, including payment for
healthcare, is protected by two federal laws: the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act of 1966 (HIPAA), and C.F.R., Part 2
on Confidentiality. We are committed to conducting all of our business
in strict compliance with federal and state regulations that govern the
delivery of our services. Our staff adheres to a strict code of ethics
that results in a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
Intervention
The Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program (ADSAP) is designed for the
Driving Under the Influence (DUI) offender. It is required by state law
that all DUI offenders complete this program in order to be
re-licensed. The goal is to reduce the future risk of DUI and promote
community and highway safety.
Pre-trial
Intervention (PTI) - Certain
nonviolent criminal offenders are given a "second chance" because this
program intervenes before cases go to trial. In some instances,
offenders are diverted out of the criminal justice system and placed
into a program of victim restitution, counseling and guidance.
Offender
Based Intervention (OBI) - This
program provides substance abuse education and treatment for people who
have been convicted of alcohol and/or other drug related offenses and
/or multiple DUI offenses. Referrals for this program come from the
courts as a special condition of a sentence or through legal or law
enforcement professionals. The NOVA curriculum has recently been
implemented and requires each offender to attend 8 sessions in order to
complete the program.
Employee
Assistance Program (EAP) -
Employees of Williamsburg County businesses and industries can receive
counseling in areas of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse, marital
problems, emotional stress and other difficult life events. Drug
screening services are also available.
